The "Big Three" Interconnected Symptoms
A textbook sign of a blown BCM in this vehicle is when the following three problems occur simultaneously:
1. Gear Shifter Locked in Park: The BCM fails to process the signal from the brake pedal sensor, meaning the electronic shift interlock solenoid never gets the command to drop, trapping the gear selector in "Park".
2. Ignition Key Physically Stuck: The module loses control over the steering column key-lock solenoid. Because the BCM cannot confirm the car is safely in Park, it will not physically let you turn the key back all the way to pull it out.
3. Complete Loss of Brake Lights & Indicators: While your headlights or high beams might still work, the specific internal circuits routing power to the main brake lights, tail lights, and corner indicators burn out.
Other Common Electrical Glitches
If the module hasn't completely failed but is actively degrading, you will usually notice erratic behavior across convenience systems:
• Severe Parasitic Battery Drain: The BCM fails to go into "sleep mode" when you turn the car off. It keeps various internal relay circuits live, completely flattening a healthy battery overnight.
• Ghost Dashboard Warning Lights: You may see random, flickering warning lights on the instrument cluster—such as the ABS, Airbag (SRS), or Traction Control lights—falsely illuminating due to CAN-Bus data communication loss between the BCM and other computers.
• Possessed Accessories: Power windows refusing to roll up or down, central locking activating randomly by itself while driving, or windshield wipers that fail to turn off or stop mid-wipe.
• Intermittent No-Crank, No-Start: In severe cases, the BCM fails to pass security verification data to the Engine Control Module (ECM), causing the immobiliser system to lock out the ignition entirely.
